Regional press printer who became reporter dies aged 75

David BlythA regional newspaper printer-turned-reporter who “loved” the job has died aged 75.

Tributes have been paid to David Blyth, who worked for Archant forerunner Eastern Counties Newspapers for many years.

David, known to colleagues as ‘Budgie’, began his career as an apprentice printer and worked in Weston-super-Mare for several years.

Edinburgh-born David, pictured, later returned to Norfolk, where he grew up, and became a typesetter in Norwich.

He later became a reporter and worked at Archant’s Cromer office.

His daughter Julie Budzak told the Eastern Daily Press: “He loved doing that job and he worked hard for his family.”

She added: “He was my hero. He was a very kind and generous man who would never do anything to hurt anyone.”

David married his first wife Linda in the 1960s, and together they had Julie and son Richard.

His second wife Barbara died in 2012.

Julie added: Julie said: “After he got together with my step-mum he moved up to Cromer and got transferred to the office up there.

“She kept every single paper that he had a piece in – I’ve got them all in a cupboard and I’m going to go through them and put them all in a big book.”

David is also survived by eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
