A regional news website has launched a bid to save 14 playgrounds on its patch from closure.
The council has blamed financial pressures for the proposals, and is looking to find “community partners” or parish councils willing to look after the areas instead.
Kent Live has set up a petition aimed at keeping funding for the playgrounds going.
Editor Luke Jacobs said: “The idea 14 playgrounds could simply close is staggering.
“Not only do they provide an essential place for thousands of children to have fun and be active, they are the places where our community comes together.
“It is no secret local authorities are facing a tough time, but a council which doesn’t put children’s welfare at the heart of its agenda has got its priorities all wrong.
“Folkestone and Hythe District Council must see sense and take this disastrous idea off the table.”
