Publisher launches novelty newspaper front page service

A regional publisher has launched a new service offering mock local newspaper front pages.

Reach plc is allowing people to buy the novelties as a gift for students who have recently received A-level, GCSE or BTEC results.

The front pages, which cost £3.99 to produce, can feature the mastheads of any of the company’s regional daily papers, as well as its national titles.

The designs will be sent in a PDF format via email to customers.

An explainer on how to buy a front page on the website of the Manchester Evening News states: “To begin with, you will need a brilliant picture of your very clever person. It may sound obvious, but make sure the one you pick looks like them. And you want one where their face takes up most of the frame

“Next is your chance to really settle into the Editor’s seat, as you will need to carefully craft a headline so it fits within the front page text box. And watch your spelling (although we’ll check it for you of course – this isn’t your GCSE English exam thankfully!).

“You’ve got space for 38 characters on your front page, but if you are struggling some good examples that fit include ‘You did it! Congratulations!’ and ‘[NAME] thrilled with top grades!'”

HTFP has approached Reach to ask whether it plans to expand the service for other occasions.
