Newspaper moves to city centre office for first time in its history

A bi-weekly newspaper has moved to a city centre office after spending the past two decades on a suburban industrial estate.

The Derry News has switched to a new home in the city’s Carlisle Road, having been based at Springtown Industrial Estate since its launch in 2001.

Some staff at the News are still working from home as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, but the office, pictured, is now open for people to call in.

Ciaran O’Neill, managing editor of the paper, said he was “delighted” with the move.

He added: “The paper was first launched in February 2001 and will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its launch next year.

“Springtown has been a great home to the paper since then but with the move more towards home-working for a lot of staff it made sense for us to look for a new office.

“It is great to be able to open the new office at Carlisle Road which is such a busy part of the city centre.

“We all know how our city centres have suffered in the past year because of the pandemic.

“Any new life coming in to the city centre is good news for the area so we are delighted to be opening up our new office.”
