Magazines devise lockdown challenge to design front covers

A publisher of four local interest magazine is launching a lockdown challenge to readers come up with designs for its front covers.

Dalesman Publishing, which publishes the Dalesman, Down Your Way, The Countryman and Cumbria magazines, wants its readers to ‘get creative’ while stuck at home as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The group wants to see a range of ideas from people who like colouring-in to budding artists and graphic designers, with prizes on offer for the best entries including the chance to feature in future editions.

The only stipulation is that the covers have to have a “Yorkshire theme”

Dalesman Editor Jon Stokoe said “In these challenging times for all print publications, we want to ensure we are still there for our readers, as we have been since those early days in 1939 from the front room of a cottage in Clapham, in the Yorkshire Dales.

“Our aim remains the same as it always has – to celebrate all that is good about our wonderful county and its people.

“The whole Dalesman team is committed to ensuring our loyal readers will continue to enjoy their monthly dose of all-things Yorkshire, giving them a little respite from the worries of the world which dominate our TV screens and newspaper at present.

“The competition is a bit of fun which can be enjoyed by the young, and the not-so-young, in the safety of their own homes. We know there is a whole load of artistic and creative talent in our midst so I look forward to seeing what people come up with.”

The most recent covers of the group’s other three magazine can be seen below.
