Lockdown contest winner graces front of rural affairs magazine

A rural affairs title which ran a lockdown front cover contest has decided to put one of its readers’ designs on this month’s edition.

The Countryman ran the competition during the coronavirus pandemic, with reader Neil Davies producing the winning entry.

The response was so good that the entry by Mr Davies has been featured on the front cover of The Countryman September issue.

The magazine is published by Country Publications, which also prints a number of regional interest magazines.

Countryman editor Mark Whitley said: “I have to say that the response to our Front Cover Competition has been fantastic, and heart-warming too.

“I never cease to be amazed by our readers’ enthusiasm and creativity.”

Mr Davies said: “Like so many, during the lockdown, I really missed the beauty and fresh air of a country walk.

“My artwork represents a vision of the silence and solitude that I lost, only to be replaced by the solitude of a different kind.

“As long as there is a sun in the sky and fields of green, then there is hope for us all.”
