Local news to continue despite publisher’s national radio rebrand

Pure RadioA regional publisher is set to continue providing local news despite incorporating one of its radio stations into a national brand.

DC Thomson has announced it is rebranding Wave FM, which broadcasts to Dundee and Perth, into Scotland-wide channel Pure Radio.

But the company has confirmed the move will not impact Wave’s news team, who will continue to deliver local news following the change in July.

DC Thomson says the move is an “opportunity to increase listener numbers” in Dundee and Perth, and extend advertisers’ reach to include the Central Belt and Tayside.

Pure Radio will still play local advertisements to listeners across Tayside with a local opt-out solution being offered to advertisers in that region.

Adam Findlay, head of radio at DC Thomson Media, said: “We’re thrilled to be extending the reach of Pure Radio into new areas.

“There’s no doubt the listeners will love hearing something different.”

HTFP reported on Wednesday how journalism roles are understood to be safe amid a shake-up of 49 Bauer Media stations which could see up to 160 jobs lost across the country.
