Journalist comes to rescue of ‘terrified’ cat trapped by her house

Shauna CorrA journalist has told of how she helped to save a “terrified” cat which fell two storeys and became trapped down the side of her house.

Belfast Live’s Shauna Corr rescued the cat after it became stuck between the terraced homes of her and her neighbours.

Firefighters were unable to free the animal after Shauna, pictured, called them.

But an animal rescuer helped by providing a cat trap, while the cat’s “parents” were also found via social media.

In a piece for Belfast Live about her experience, Shauna wrote: “Just as I was about to lose all hope she would be saved, her parents arrived with her toys and food – and after 24 hours holed and no doubt terrified in the cavity, she finally came out to the sound of their voices when they returned just after 8am [on Tuesday].

“After much stress, dozens of social media posts and an emergency operation, the cat is now safe at home with her mum Kathy and dad Jeremiah, who couldn’t have been more grateful at the efforts to save their beloved family pet.

“Their message to everyone involved in bringing her home safe was simply – ‘thank you so much’.

“It’s not often you end up right in the middle of a story as a journalist – but after tossing and turning all night with worry for the wee cat, I can’t tell you how relieved I am.”
