Independent publisher launches county-wide news website

An independent publisher has launched its first county-wide news website after putting together a new team of specialist digital journalists.

Iliffe Media has launched Suffolk News, Which is described as a “one-stop-shop” for news, views, sport and features across the county.

Iliffe runs five newspapers in Suffolk – the Bury Free Press, Haverhill Echo, Newmarket Journal, Suffolk Free Press and Diss Express.

Content for Suffolk News will be produced by journalists working on those titles, along with “a new team of digital specialists”.

The site’s launch marks Iliffe’s first move into county-side digital publishing, and will see it cover areas of Suffolk not traditionally served by existing titles.

Kent Online, another county-wide site run by the company, was launched prior to its takeover of the KM Group.

In a welcome message to the new site, Free Press editor Barry Peters said: “Suffolk News is powered by the brands you love and trust – the Bury Free Press, Haverhill Echo, Newmarket Journal, Suffolk Free Press and Diss Express.

“Our teams of local journalists from those titles plus a new team of digital specialists will be bringing you the brightest news, videos and a weekly podcast to make sure you are bang up to date with the news everyone is talking about from our lovely county.

“If social media is your favoured medium, you can also catch us on Facebook and Twitter, too, so you’re never far away from Suffolk’s headlines.”

He added: “We’ll be mixing longer reads with breaking news – and every Friday, we will bring you a podcast of the week’s best bits.”
