Hyperlocal welcomes advertisers’ return as it marks 10 years in business

graham-breezeA hyperlocal news website has welcomed returning advertisers after the coronavirus lockdown as it celebrates its 10th birthday.

MyWelshpool marks a decade in business today, having been launched by journalists Graham Breeze and David Williams on 13 August 2010.

Graham, pictured, is a former editor-in-chief and publishing director at regional publisher NWN Media, now owned by Newsquest, while David worked with him on the Powys County Times.

They were joined by former Powys County Times, Shropshire Star and Western Mail journalist Owain Betts to launch sister title MyNewtown in December 2010.

Discussing 10 years in business, Graham said: “The pace in which people are switching from print to on-line alternatives is increasing faster than anyone in the industry predicted.

“Covid-19 has accelerated the switch and unfortunately many of the country’s finest local newspapers will not survive.

“The pandemic has been particularly challenging for us with revenue streams drying up but we have supported our customers during the crisis and they are rewarding that support by spending their money with us again, recognising the benefits we offer through our sites and our social networks.

“The trick for us has been winning the confidence of our advertisers by producing a constant supply of accurate news coverage, seven-day-per-week.”
