The future of community journalism is set to be discussed at an annual conference for hyperlocal publishers.
Cardiff University’s Centre for Community Journalism and the Independent Community News Network have announced the conference, which will be held on Thursday 2 April.
It will bring together community journalists, academics, policymakers, innovators and technologists to explore the future of independent community news.
The conference also aims to celebrate the sector’s recent successes, hear from its most ardent practitioners, and share new ideas, skills, and tools to help build the next generation of community and hyperlocal news titles.
The free event will be held the university’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture in Cardiff city centre.
Those with suggestions on what they would like to see and hear, or what they think should be covered, should contact Matt Abbott on [email protected].

Hyperlocal publishing by new independent businesses is the way forward go truly local news.
With the main centres focussed wholly on chasing the mythical digital dollar and with little interest to provide grass roots news, other than trawling public social media sites ,it’s opened the door to the many hyper local publishers who are doing a great job in reporting on the news from their own areas.
It hope this event is well attended and a raft of learning, best practice and shareable ideas comes from it
Good luck to all those attending
