Hollywood star backs daily’s bid to rehome namesake pig

A Hollywood star has backed a regional daily’s bid to help find a new home for a pig which shares his name.

Kevin Bacon shared an appeal by the Edinburgh Evening News on Twitter to find a new owner for a kunekune pig named after the actor.

Mr Bacon, who is known for roles in films such as Footloose, A Few Good Men and Apollo 13, urged his followers on the social media site to “help a fellow Kevin find a home” in publishing a link to the story.

The appeal to rehome the pig, pictured below, is being run by the Scottish SPCA with the backing of the EEN.

Joe Cawthorn, the EEN’s live news editor, told HTFP: “With all the gloomy Covid-19 news this year we were happy to share the campaign to find a home for Kevin Bacon the pig. It’s fair to say he got a lot of interest in our remote newsroom.

“The story generated a big response from the Edinburgh Evening News readers, nevertheless we were pleasantly surprised when the real Kevin Bacon came forward to get behind the campaign.

“It would have made for a better follow-up if Mr Bacon had offered to rehome his namesake, but we were very grateful for his support and hopefully it will result in Kevin finding his forever home soon.

“We can’t hog the credit, the Scottish SPCA continues to do excellent work to promote animal welfare and we always enjoy sharing their appeals.”
