Ex-regional publisher colleagues team up to run new hyperlocal news sites

Beth SharpFormer colleagues at a regional publisher have been recruited to run two new hyperlocal news websites which have been launched.

Nub News has announced its expansion into the Devon towns of Sidmouth and Dawlish, which will be covered by former Archant journalists Beth Sharp and Philippa Davies.

Beth’s previous role was the chief reporter for Archant covering East Devon and Philippa, who grew up in Devon, reported in Sidmouth for the company.

Philippa will cover Dawlish for Nub News, while Beth will serve as regional editor for Sidmouth.

Beth, pictured, said: “I’m delighted to have joined Nub News.

“The industry is changing and Nub News’s approach of really getting involved in the community and meeting people is one of the reasons I decided on a change.”

Philippa added: “Truly local journalism is so important nowadays, and judging by the initial reaction I’ve had from people in Dawlish, they really welcome the combination of local news, community information and support for business that our new site will be offering.”

Nub News now covers 54 towns across the United Kingdom.

Chief executive Karl Hancock said: “I’m delighted two senior reporters in Beth and Philippa have joined Nub News.

“Dawlish becomes our 54th town and we continue to grow. There are many towns across the UK that do not have a dedicated news service given all the closures and consolidation.

“It’s good to be helping these towns get their voice and identity back in some way and report on events that actually happen in their towns.”
