Editor’s run in dad’s memory raises thousands for charity

An editor has raised thousands of pounds for charity after completing a 24k run in his memory.

HTFP reported last month how In Your Area editor-in-chief Ed Walker, who is also audience and content director at Reach plc’s regional titles, in honour of his dad Peter, who died on 1 September after a five-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ed has now raised more than £2,000 in sponsorship from the challenge, which he completed on Sunday, for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

With his friend Iain Mackie, he ran from Preston, where he lives, to Southport, where his father grew up.

Ed told HTFP: “It was hard going on a very murky morning and I’m not sure I will ever run that far again in my life.

“Thank you to everyone for their messages and donations, it means a huge amount to do something so positive in memory of my dad.

“And to run a route that he went many times and finish in a place filled with so many family memories meant even more.”
