Editor who left daily in restructure lands new comms role

Chris Story 1A regional daily editor who left his role in a pre-Christmas restructure has found a new job with a communications firm.

Chris Story has joined Edinburgh-based communications consultancy Message Matters following his departure from the Carlisle News & Star.

HTFP reported in November how Chris, pictured, was leaving the News & Star and its sister weekly the Cumberland News after a year-and-a-half in the role as part of a series of cutbacks by Newsquest in Cumbria.

He joins Message Matters in an associate role after a 20-year career in the regional press – 15 of them spent with the News & Star.

Chris said: “I am excited by this great opportunity to use my experience working across print, digital and social media to help clients tell their stories, share their messages and make their voices heard in powerful, effective and engaging ways.”

Message Matters operates throughout the UK, offering communications services including media relations, political relations, campaigns and branding.

Director Andy Maciver said: “We’re delighted to have secured Chris. He’s going to add real weight to our media relations expertise, which is constantly evolving to meet the need for clients to reach an increasingly digital audience.

“And he’s also got all the capabilities required to combine his media relations with work on the award-winning political relations side of our business.”
