Editor takes on new role with regional publisher

Joanne GoodwinA former newspaper editor has taken charge of a regional lifestyle magazine.

Archant has announced the appointment of Joanne Goodwin to the editorship of Cheshire Life following the departure of Katie Mulloy.

Joanne joined Archant in 2006 and edited five of its Midlands Life titles before moving to the weddings division as editorial director of the company’s portfolio of Bride magazines, events and digital platforms.

She has previously edited papers including the North Devon Journal, Mid-Devon Gazette and Wellington Weekly News.

Joanne, pictured, said: “I have had the most fantastic and fulfilling career in newspapers, magazine and digital platforms to date and the Cheshire Life editorship really is the best of the best.

“It is a rare thing in 2020 – a print and digital publication that is ambitious, growing its first-class team, increasing both circulation and revenues and which has nurtured and retained its prestige, brand value and standing.

“It’s a job I’ve long coveted, have great ambition for, and which represents everything I know and love about publishing and journalism.”

Joanne started her career as a reporter on the Stafford and Stone Newsletter before joining her hometown daily The Sentinel, in Stoke-on-Trent, and working on all aspects of the newsroom operation, from reporting and news editing to subbing, features editing and design.

After her spell as an editor on the aforementioned weekly titles, she returned to The Sentinel and held roles including assistant editor and then deputy editor.

She was one of three senior Northcliffe executives responsible for the conception, launch and development of the multi award-winning Sentinel Sunday, working as operational editor of the Sunday and later the six-edition daily.

Joanne also led major campaigns including the successful fight to have the postcode lottery cancer drug Herceptin prescribed to women on The Sentinel’s patch.

Archant’s chief content officer Matt Kelly said: “Cheshire Life is fabulous magazine and in Joanne we have a fabulous editor who will take it to even greater heights.”
