Daily puts top politician barred from pubs on mock ‘Wanted’ poster

A regional daily showed the First Minister of Wales on a mock ‘Wanted’ poster after he was barred by more than 100 pubs on its patch.

The Daily Post ran the poster-style splash on Mark Drakeford, after the West Conwy Pubwatch group said he would be banned from entering its members’ premises for at least 18 months.

The group made the decision after Mr Drakeford unveiled new rules for the hospitality industry in a bid to stem the rising tide of coronavirus in Wales.

They include a ban on alcohol sales in hospitality settings, and a 6pm curfew.

Daily barred

The Colwyn Bay-based Post splashed on the story on Wednesday, pictured above.

Editor Dion Jones told HTFP: “The decision to ban Wales’ First Minister Mark Drakeford from more than 100 pubs in North Wales within hours of his announcement shows the strong feelings many leaders in the hospitality trade hold against the new restrictions.

“This has so far been our most read story of the week online and we read many supporting and opposing views on this subject since the restrictions were announced.

“We will always present the stories that matter to communities.”
