Campaigning journalism poll welcomes national entries for the first time

National newspaper campaigns will feature for the first time in a public vote highlighting the importance of campaigning journalism.

The annual Making a Difference poll will be launched on Monday to mark the start of Journalism Matters, a week-long campaign promoting the vital role trusted news media journalism plays in UK society.

The vote has previously been open exclusively to regional campaigns, but this year national newspapers are also able to enter for the first time.

Separate prizes will be given for the regional and national entries polling the most votes.

The vote will run for three days, closing at 5pm on Wednesday 7 October.

Last year’s award was won by the Yellow Advertiser for its long-running investigation into a child sex abuse ring.

The winner will be announced two days later.

The week will see news media titles across the industry participate through a variety of initiatives such as features highlighting their campaigning work and interviews with high profile figures explaining why trusted news and information has been so important during the pandemic.
