A weekly newspaper’s office is set to close after its owner decided it was no longer fit for purpose, HTFP understands.
The North Devon Journal will leave its current base at Avery House, on Liberty Road, Barnstaple, at the end of this month.
Avery House, pictured, had also served as a district office for Journal owner Reach plc’s Devon Live website.
Five members of staff including one journalist had been based there prior to the closure being revealed.
However, it is understood Reach has now found alternative office space in Barnstaple for the sole member of editorial staff currently working in the town.
Four sales people who were headquartered at Avery House will now work remotely and no jobs have been lost as a result of the move.
Reach declined to comment further when approached by HTFP.
These offices were purposely built for the Journal c.2006 and could accommodate around 60 staff.
When I first walked in the door there were c.20 people in editorial and a further c,25 in advertising.
Sad times that there’s now only one journalist covering an area that covers around 2,000sqm.
