Weekly editor and former girl guide helps group celebrate centenary

A weekly newspaper editor and former girl guide has helped her old branch celebrate its centenary.

Emily Pearce, who edits the Isle of Wight County Press, joined fellow past and present members of the 1st Carisbrooke guides and brownies.

The celebration was held after the unit submitted a letter to the County Press urging former guides and brownies to come forward.

Current members are undertaking interviews with their predecessors ahead of an exhibition to be held at the Island’s Carisbrooke Castle Museum, and Emily offered them some advice on interviewing technique.

Guides Holly Avey and Bethany Wells, both ten, interviewed Emily herself for the project.

She said: “It was great to go back to my old guide unit and meet the girls there.

“I think the project to record members’ experiences across different generations is a fantastic idea, and I was happy to help.

“Holly and Bethany were very good interviewers — maybe we will see them working at the County Press in a few years.”
