Weekly backs bid to provide PJs for sick children at Christmas

A weekly newspaper has backed an appeal to provide pyjamas for sick children in hospital at Christmas.

The Dereham Times is taking in pairs of pyjamas at its office after covering the tragic death of four-year-old Denver Clinton, whose fight against a rare form of cancer it had covered.

In Denver’s honour the Times, and Archant sister daily the Eastern Daily Press office, has volunteered its office at Breckland Business Centre as a collection point for an appeal launched in his memory by family friend Melanie Share.

The pyjamas collected will be donated to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital’s children’s ward and delivered in time for Christmas.

Donna-Louise Bishop, senior reporter for the EDP and Times, told HTFP: “Little Denver Clinton touched so many people’s lives during his short time, including my own.

“It’s not everyday that a family lets you into their world to share their most personal stories so I feel particularly grateful to Denver’s loved ones trusting me with theirs.

“It’s great to see Denver’s name living on in the local community and I think Melanie is doing a wonderful thing to help other children and the families of them, who may be going through the same thing.

“Being able to support her by opening a collection point is very important to us as a local newspaper too.”
