Website launched to showcase county’s freelance journalists

A new website promoting freelances has been launched to reflect the “growing number” of journalists no longer working in staff roles across one English county.

The Nottingham branch of the National Union of Journalists has launched the dedicated website in order to showcase its freelance members to potential employers.

The ‘Hire A Nottingham Journalist’ site lists journalists under specialist headings – such as writers, photographers and multi media.

Listings on the site are free to NUJ members who live or work in the Nottinghamshire area.

According to the branch, the site was “developed to reflect the growing number of members in the area who are no longer working as staff”.

Kevin Stanley, the branch’s social media officer, said : “There’s a wealth of local talent in our patch, and we’re finding that a number of companies are seeking specialists for one off events or major projects.

“We felt that by promoting freelancers who are NUJ members, it gives organisations peace of mind, knowing that they’re hiring someone with good, ethical credentials.”
