Three photographers scooped awards doubles at an annual ceremony.
Mal McCann, of the Irish News, won Photographer of the Year at the 2019 Northern Ireland Press Photographers’ Association awards, as well as the Features category.
Mal wasn’t the only double winner of the night, with Thomas McMullan, of North Belfast News, securing a brace, taking the Sports Action and Individual Study awards.
The Impartial Reporter’s John McVitty triumphed in the Provincial Photographer of the Year category, while Liam’s Sunday Life colleague Colm O’Reilly scooped first place for News.
Freelances Ronan McGrade, Grahan Baalham-Curry and Simon Graham won the People, Politics and Business/PR categories respectively.
NIPPA president Freddie Parkinson said: “The quality of entries this year were very high and the judges had a tough job.
“I’d like to congratulate all those who won and thank everyone who entered.”
Judge Alasdair Baird, Daily Record picture editor, added: “There were a few arguments along the way, there were some outstanding images.”
