Society of Editors reveals Regional Press Awards date switch

Ian Murray 2The date of next year’s Regional Press Awards has been switched in order to avoid any clash with holidays.

The Society of Editors, which organises the awards on behalf of the industry, has announced the 2020 ceremony will be held on 5 June instead of its traditional May slot.

The SoE says the switch has been made due to the change in date for the May Bank Holiday and the half term school holiday during that month.

Further information regarding the awards will be made available later in the year.

SoE executive director Ian Murray, pictured, said: “We know that everyone who will be nominated for an award will wish to attend what is the highlight of the regional press calendar and so we have taken the decision to move the date of the event from its traditional May slot to June.

“We are announcing this now so that everyone can pencil the date in their diary.

“There has already been some fabulous journalism produced in the regional and local press and choosing the winners for this year’s awards looks like it will be as difficult a task as ever.”
