Regional daily urges readers to give a pound to get £15m hospice open

A regional daily has launched a final push to help get a new £15m hospice on its patch open.

Basildon-based daily The Echo is calling on everyone in south Essex to give £1 to help get the new Fair Havens Hospice, in Southend, open in spring next year.

The Echo’s Power of a Pound campaign aims to rise the final £350,000 required to get the project over the line.

Echo editor Chris Hatton has encouraged readers to get involved.

He said: “Nobody should underestimate the importance of Havens hospices in south Essex. Staff and volunteers do the best job to give compassionate, dignified care to those who really need it.

“The hospice has been working tirelessly to generate new income for its new hospice. The target is in reach and we now hope our army of Echo readers – a very generous bunch – will donate £1 each to create an even better hospice for south Essex.

“Those who have been touched by the hospice know exactly how important it is. It’s now time for us all to recognise that and play our part in creating the hospice of the future.”

    I think I’ve found the £350K!

If you have a look at the charities accounts the key management salary and pensions totalled £487,260. One member of staff was paid between £80K-£90K and four paid between £60K-£70K. Typical charity looking after themselves.
