Regional daily sells 16,000 football sticker packs in less than a week

A regional daily has sold 16,000 football sticker packs in less than a week after launching an official album for a Premier League club on its patch.

HTFP reported how Archant title the Eastern Daily Press had joined forces with Norwich City FC to produce a sticker album for the team last month, offering readers the chance to collect a total of 230 different stickers.

The packs went on sale at newsagents across Norfolk last Thursday, and as of Wednesday afternoon a total of 16,000 packs of five – or 80,000 stickers – had been sold.

Around 5,000 albums themselves have also been purchased.

Dionee Brown, circulation sales manager at Archant, told the EDP: “I think it’s incredible how quickly people have got into it.

“It is something unique to local supporters, and it is just brilliant.”

The album’s launch has also been welcomed beyond the EDP’s patch.

Fifty packs of stickers and an album have been shipped off to North Carolina and an album to California.

Supporters in Sweden have snapped up 25 packs of stickers and two albums, and an album and five sticker packs have gone to Finland.

David Freezer, chief Norwich City reporter for the EDP and Norwich Evening News, said: “A lot of love has gone into this very first Norwich City sticker book, to ensure it’s both a celebration of life as a Canaries supporter for fans of different eras, and a keepsake for years to come.”

Any diversion from yet more huge copy sales losses for the EDP, down now to less than 24,000,has to be a good thing.
    On the ball city!
