Regional daily helps ‘biggest fan’ celebrate 100th birthday

Daisy CullingA regional daily has helped its “biggest fan”, who has bought a copy of the newspaper every day since she was a young girl, celebrate her 100th birthday.

Daisy Culling, described by the paper as “the self-confessed biggest fan of the East Anglian Daily Times”, marked her centenary surrounded by family and friends.

EADT reporter Victoria Pertusa attended the celebrations at the sheltered accommodation where Mrs Culling, pictured, now lives.

She told the Ipswich-based paper she remembered when it cost three halfpennies to buy.

Discussing her birthday party, Mrs Culling told Victoria: “I wasn’t expecting all this – I really don’t know what to say, honestly.

“It’s so nice that they’ve all come – I didn’t think I was so popular to be honest.”

Explaining her secret to a long life, she added: “Keeping happy dear. I’ve looked after lots of people, and being happy is the best.”
