Former regional daily makes print comeback with special edition

A regional daily which ceased publication in 2017 is set to be revived in print for a one-off special edition.

The Oldham Evening Chronicle will be published in January as a news review of 2019, owner Credible Media has announced.

The Chronicle closed in August 2017, when 49 jobs were lost at the newspaper after owner Hirst, Kidd and Rennie Limited went into administration.

It has since been revived as a digital-only news operation under new owner Credible Media, and the brand was revived in print last year when an education supplement bearing its masthead was published.

Oldham 2019

Credible Media says the site now gets more than one million page views a quarter, and the print edition will feature some of its most read stories of 2019.

said: “We’re incredibly excited to see the Oldham Evening Chronicle back on newsagents’ shelves once again. The Chronicle has been part of the Oldham community since 1854, and it’s still trusted by thousands of readers across the borough.

“The printed issue will be an official printed record of the major events in the town from the last twelve months from the trusted journalists at “The Chron”.

“We’ve made a huge effort to retain staff members, and keep the newsroom based in the town. We hope readers will enjoy flicking through the pages of the Chronicle again.”

The printed Chronicle will be available from January 15th in newsagents and supermarkets.
