Editor congratulates former canteen worker as she marks 102nd birthday

A regional daily editor has congratulated one of his newspaper’s former workers after she celebrated her 102nd birthday.

Doris Moore, who worked in the Nottingham Post’s canteen for a number of years, has marked the milestone with friends and family.

Doris, pictured, joined the Post at the age of 60, after three decades in a similar role at the canteen of Gedling Colliery, near Nottingham.

While at the Post, she met her second husband Alan Moore, a delivery driver for the paper.

Of her time with the Post, Doris said: “It was lovely – I met lots of friends there, I can’t remember all their names now.

“It’s also where I met Alan, he was a delivery driver and was actually put up for driving awards. In the canteen we served the staff, and cleared up after them, back when it was the original building.”

Post editor Mike Sassi, said: “We would like to wish Mrs Moore a very happy birthday and take this opportunity to thank her for all her hard work over the years.

“The Nottingham Post is built on people like Mrs Moore and for that we are very grateful.”
