Daily launches year-long campaign to shout about patch

A regional daily has launched a year-long campaign aimed at highlighting the “best bits” of its patch.

The Swindon Advertiser’s Shout About Swindon initiative will see the newspaper run a weekly feature throughout 2019 to “shine a spotlight” on people, groups and communities striving to make a positive difference to the area.

For the first feature, the Advertiser collected 10 top things to look forward to in Swindon in 2019 and asked the town’s mayor Junab Ali to say a few words about why he’s proud to be a Swindonian.

The paper has appealed to readers to nominate people they believe deserve coverage after launching the campaign on the front page of Wednesday’s edition.

Swindon Shout

Advertiser editor Pete Gavan said: “Swindon is a wonderful town with an incredible amount of variety and a strong sense of community, but these aspects don’t always get the amount of attention they deserve.

“The Adver has diligently covered all the big breaking news in Swindon on a daily basis for decades but some of our readers have recently mentioned that some of these stories tend to be rather negative.

“Shout About Swindon will hopefully change that by highlighting under-appreciated residents and initiatives who have been doing stellar work under-the-radar, and promoting the plentiful positives about the town.

“There’s so much to shout about, so let’s get started.”

Well-meaning, good for the area and no doubt requested by some readers, but, as ever, real sales/views will be driven by criminality, hear-wrenching tales of woe and traffic accidents/delays.

Very uninspiring front — thought the same about the one that was in the long list of front pages of the year.

    Both seem so dull.
