Daily issues front page welcome to cricket fans from across world

A regional daily has issued a front page welcome to cricket fans from across the world to its patch.

The Nottingham Post has celebrated the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup, during which a total of five matches will be played at the city’s Trent Bridge stadium.

So far two of the five games have been played, with the West Indies triumphing over Pakistan and Pakistan then going on to  defeat England.

A front page editorial marking the start of the tournament was run on Friday, the day of the West Indies v Pakistan match.

In a front page editorial, the Post wrote: “Welcome to Nottingham. The real Nottingham. The diverse city, the open city, the city that loves its cricket.

“Now, the biggest tournament the sport has to offer is here – and so is the biggest party.

“From today, Trent Bridge is opening its gates to thousands of fans of all ages and countries.”

It added: “Everyone is welcome, even if you don’t have a ticket.”
