A regional daily changed the name of its sports section in honour of a football “legend” three days after his death.
The Eastern Daily Press marked the passing of former Norwich City player Duncan Forbes by calling its ‘The Pink Un’ supplement ‘The Dunc Un’ for one Saturday only.
The 12-page section’s front cover featured a black background on the masthead and a picture of Mr Forbes, who made more than 350 appearances for Norwich and served the club for more than three decades.
The main image showed the City Stand at Norwich’s Carrow Road stadium – the only part of the ground that exists from his playing days – with flags flying half mast and the headline a quote from current manager Daniel Farke.
Mr Forbes, 78, had been receiving treatment for Alzheimer’s since 2007.
EDP head of sport Chris Lakey said: “Duncan Forbes really was a Norwich City legend and his death prompted a huge response from fans.
“It was only right that we remembered him in a proper way. There was a genuine desire to show due respect to Duncan and I think we got it right. I think he would have liked it.”
A fitting tribute. Well done EDP.
