$500 prize on offer for journalism students who are aspiring cricket writers

A $500 prize is up for grabs for student journalists who are aspiring cricket writers ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

The Cricket Writers Club has been tasked by tournament organiser the International Cricket Council to run a series of workshop for young people interested in writing about the sport.

The club is planning to run three workshops during the tournament at The Oval, in London, Old Trafford, in Manchester, and Edgbaston, in Birmingham.

Up to 20 students will take part, and the age limit for participants is 21.

Each workshop will include a session on match and news reporting, colour writing and global event operations, with students also attending a pre-match press conference for a game due to take place at each of the venues where the sessions will be held.

Three of the participants – one from each workshop – will be selected by the teachers to attend one of the semi-finals to report on the match for the ICC website.

One of those three will then be selected to cover the final and the winner will take home a $500 prize and have their report published on the ICC site.

Those interested in participating should send their details, age and preferred venue to [email protected] by Friday 10 May.
