£2,500 up for grabs to help regional newspapers with cricket coverage

A £2,500 prize fund is on offer to regional newspapers to help supplement their coverage of professional cricket.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has launched its annual Domestic Cricket Journalism Awards for 2019, which features a Regional Newspaper of the Year prize.

Awards from the prize fund will be made to assist regional titles in supplementing existing county coverage provided by staff reporters.

Entrants are required to submit examples of their newspaper’s coverage of domestic cricket during 2019, and must also supply a short statement of no more than 200 words explaining how the publication improved its coverage of domestic cricket during the year.

The ECB says the judging panel will factor in the resources available to all shortlisted titles before making its final decision.

Last year the Yorkshire Post triumphed in the category, and also won the Outstanding Newspaper Coverage honour.

The closing date for entries is Friday 17 January, and more information on how to enter can be found here.
