Wales Media Awards 2019 open for entries

The annual Wales Media Awards are now officially open for entries with a range of new categories for 2019.

The free-to-enter awards, held in aid of the Journalists’ Charity, were revived three years ago after a long period of abeyance and have since gone from strength to strength.

This year the event has a new headline sponsor in the shape of lottery operator Camelot and four major new categories designed to focus on “community, columnists and campaigns.”

The awards will be presented in Cardiff on 22 March 2019 at a ceremony to be hosted by BBC Cymru Wales presenter Lucy Owen and ITV Cymru Wales’ Jonathan Hill.

The new categories are:

  • Community Journalism of the Year, showcasing reporting of local community matters by Local Democracy Reporters and independent community enterprises
  • Vlog / Blog of the Year for topical, news-based vlogs or blogs created and managed by individuals, a group of individuals, charities or companies
  • Columnist of the Year which celebrates journalistic writing skills in news-related or general opinion columns
  • Campaign of the Year which aims to showcase the very best of journalistic skills and seeks entries from the arenas of news, features, documentaries, campaigns and investigative journalism

Entries can now be submitted via www.walesmediaawards.co.uk with a closing date of Monday 5 November. Shortlists for each category will be announced in February 2019.
