Regional publisher Archant saw its websites post strong audience growth during the second half of 2017 according to today’s regional ABC figures.
Of the top 15 fastest-growing web brands in terms of average daily unique browsers, ten were from the Norwich-based publisher.
London-based platform The Reporter topped the charts with 76pc growth, while the East Anglian Daily Times, Lowestoft Journal, Ilford Recorder, East London Advertiser and Great Yarmouth Mercury websites all posted increases in excess of 40pc.
Also performing well were CN Group platforms the timesandstar.co.uk, covering Workington, and whitehavennews.co.uk.
As well as Archant and CN, Johnston Press and Newsquest titles also figure prominently in the list with JP flagship The Scotsman complementing its 2pc print circulation increase with a 20pc rise in web audience.
However the figures don’t include the Trinity Mirror web brands which were audited monthly until last autumn when TM decided to stop publishing individual web stats for each website.

Still troubled by Trinity Mirror’s decision not to be transparent about their much vaunted web figures.
Call me cynical, us older journalists learned to be the hard way, but I doubt all is rosy in the garden there.
I’m sure someone will tell me the complete opposite.
TM’s press statements are a bit like the White House communications at the moment.

With Archants latest newspaper ABC figures being so bad, doesn’t this just confirm more and more people are choosing the reduced online newspaper web pages as opppsed to buying actual copies of the paper?
Selling less than 29,000 EDPs a day and just 10,000 copies of the paper in Great Yarmouth and a few more in Lowestoft ought to be more of a concern than celebrating an upturn in online free readers and people taking the goods for free.
However it is good news for the commercial teams as it does raise expectations for them to monetise these greatly increased online figures.

Will these figures be enough to make up for the lost revenue from 8-9,000 fewer sales of the Archant daily titles, we ask ourselves?
