Readers urged to help name beer celebrating daily’s 150th anniversary

A regional daily is calling on readers to help name a beer which is being produced to mark the newspaper’s 150th anniversary.

The Bradford Telegraph & Argus has teamed up with the Bradford Brewery to create the commemorative ale, which will be available in July.

A limited run of 40 nine-gallon barrels of the beverage, a 4pc deep golden ale, have been produced.

It will be available at more than 350 pubs across Bradford, North-West England, York and Harrogate.

The T&A says name suggestions can be humourous, historic or media or Bradford-related, but they must be clean.

Editor Nigel Burton, who will select the winning entry, said: “We are delighted that Bradford Brewery has agreed to brew a special limited edition beer to help us celebrate our 150th and hope that our readers can come up with a topical name that reflects the paper and its presence within the city.

“There’s a lot of excitement in the office to see what T&A readers come up with for a name and ultimately, to see what the beer taste like. There is certainly no shortage of volunteers to sample it.”

Jake Bartlett-Perry, Bradford Brewery head brewer, said: “We are really excited to hear about the T&A beer. We have sat down to work out which hops are best to use. The beer will be a golden colour.

“It is a limited edition beer and will be available until the barrels go. It will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

“We have got high hopes for this one. It’s going to be a popular one for the summer.”
