Pub gadget helps drinkers access local news while enjoying pint

A new innovation set up by a pub will allow drinkers to read local news electronically while they enjoy a pint.

The Regal Club, in Kingsbridge, Devon, has set up interactive electronic boards displaying the websites of the Kingsbridge & Salcombe Gazette and South Hams Gazette.

Customers can click on headlines and read full stories using the board, which has been set up on a bar at the club.

Bar menus can also be viewed on the board, along with sports and games results.

South Hams Newspapers editor Stuart Nuttall said: “It is great that customers can keep abreast of the latest news from Kingsbridge and across the district while they’re enjoying their visit to the Regal Club.

“It’s certainly a novel idea from our point of view and we are pleased to see that customers are already taking advantage of the service.”

Club manager Georgina Turner said: “My father [Bill Patrick], with his engineering background, is always keen to utilise the most recent technology, and this is another example of this.

“Our pool and euchre results used to be on pieces of paper around the bar, now we can put them on here and everyone can see them.”
