Pop fans’ refund success scores victory for daily’s anti-touting campaign

Fans of a pop star who backed a daily newspaper’s anti-touting campaign have received hundreds of thousands in refunds after being ripped off by a concert ticket reseller.

HTFP reported last month how Ed Sheeran had lent his support to the Daily Record’s ‘Stub out the touts’ campaign, which aims to stop the practice at concerts and big events.

According to the Record, hundreds of his fans had been forced to queue up and buy new tickets for at face-value prices for his shows at Glasgow’s Hampden Park after they were ripped off by ticket reseller Viagogo.

The Record splashed on Wednesday on news that more than £700,000 has now been refunded to Sheeran’s fans in a victory for its campaign.

Sheeran previously told the Record: “I loved these shows at Hampden. Scottish crowds are always so enthusiastic.

“Fans have understood that our operation to tackle touts has been about being tough with them but have always understood our priority has been getting people into the gigs, not kicking anyone out.

“We’ll keep on doing stuff like this to protect my fans.”
