Friday Funnies: Plenty of laughter in the paper – but not in the newsroom?

There may have been plenty of laughter on the pages of the Swindon Advertiser when the above went to print, but we doubt whether such merriment extended to the newsroom after the mistake was realised.

The error was shared on Twitter by the BBC’s Alistair Coleman, who joked in homage to comedy series Blackadder: “The Swindon Advertiser’s experiment letting Cackling Mad Jack McMad write their On This Day column was doomed to failure.”

Except this isn’t funny is it? It’s just a reflection of how far the regional newspaper industry has sunk.

Sorry that you think this is funny. It says everything there is to say about modern newsrooms. Hate to say “in my day”, but in my day somebody would be lucky to keep their job.

Hands up: who remembers subs? Stone subs? Setters with an eye for a mistake? Printers checking for more than dodgy registration?

There by the grace of god go us all……just not our turn this week etc etc.. as these blunders occur more often as corners are cut. Was the blunderer taken out and shot? Absolute shower..
