Ex-PR man to help churches get local press coverage

Keith MorrisA former regional journalist and company PR man will be among the speakers at an event aimed at helping churches deal with their local newspapers.

Keith Morris, who used to work for Archant, will speak at a training session aimed at helping Norfolk churches use the local media, social media and websites more effectively.

Keith, pictured, worked as a sub-editor on the Eastern Daily Press between 1989 and 1996.

He then spent 16 years, between 1999 and 2015, as Archant’s corporate communications manager.

Keith has run a Christian community news website called Network Norwich & Norfolk since 2005, and has served as director of communications for the Roman Catholic Diocese of East Anglia since 2015.

The event, entitled ‘An Evening with the Local Press’, will be hosted by the marketing and communications team at the Anglican Diocese of Norwich on 12 March.

Katherine Limbach, the Bishop of Norwich’s press officer, said: “We will have a panel style interview with journalists discussing the local media landscape, how to get stories noticed by the press, techniques and tips, with Q&A.”

Keith’s a good guy and always kept a fair, balanced perspective, even when under pressure to give the company view on poor decisions or short term knee jerk strategies so I wish him well.
My advice to Norfolk churches ( or anyone) is keep it simple, include photos and make it easy to lift, copy and paste, don’t even worry about finding a news angle as they’re only after space filler these days so anything needing any work will reduce your chances of being published.
There’s never been an easier time to get your PR pieces published even if it will be to greatly reduced audiences

Agree Archie. Weekly papers will use just about anything. Old paper of mine had a religious correspondent as it grandly called him. His contacts were amazing.
