Ex-daily journalist takes on new role at expanding PR company

A former regional daily journalist has taken a new job with an expanding public relations company.

Darren Bane, formerly of the Bristol Post, has joined Empica as a PR manager.

Darren worked for the Post from 1991 to 2000, having previously served on the Weston and Somerset Mercury.

He has since worked in communications for both Avon and Somerset Constabulary, and Avon Fire & Rescue Service.

Darren’s new role will include spearheading Empica’s media training work and crisis management for clients facing media and public scrutiny.

He has joined Empica along with new PR assistant Hannah Mead, while the company move into new larger offices in Wraxall, Somerset.

Managing director Martin Powell, who founded Empica in 1989, said: “Darren has a wealth of skills and knowledge that is now available to our clients and adds to our knowledgeable team.

“His background handling tough media situations with both the police and fire service, and communications for large organisations, will be invaluable.

“Darren is now full-time with us having first joined a few months ago as temporary cover for holidays and while some major projects were being completed.”
