Daily honours patch’s most inspirational to mark county’s special day

A regional daily marked a special day for the county it serves with a supplement honouring 100 of its most inspirational people.

The Yorkshire Post celebrated Yorkshire Day, which was held yesterday, with the 56-page ‘Inspiring Yorkshire’ supplement’.

The special featured 100 people from across the county who have been honoured in one form or another, for their hard work and dedication to their craft, or who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Among those listed are entrepreneurs, captains of industry, sporting heroes, actors, writers and artists, along with health professionals, academics, charity workers and civil servants.

Inspiring Yorkshire

Deputy editor Ian Day said. “This is by no means a definitive list – to do so would require many more pages than these.

“Instead, we are offering a snapshot of some of the many men and women who have created an indelible mark in God’s Own County.”

To complement the supplement, the Leeds-based Post also ran a front page comment in which it opined that this should be the last Yorkshire Day celebration without a definitive devolution plan in place for the county.

The Post’s celebration of Yorkshire Day comes after the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News celebrated the inaugural Norfolk Day, held last week after a successful campaign by the Archant sister dailies.
