Cricket club honours former editor by naming suite in his memory

Mike RobinsonA cricket club is set to honour a former weekly newspaper editor who died last year aged 65.

Mike Robinson spent 21 years as editor of various titles including the South Shropshire Journal, Mid Wales Journal, Hereford Journal and Ludlow Journal, prior to his death following a short illness last September.

Oswestry Cricket Club, of which Mike was chairman, has now announced the launch of the Mike Robinson Appeal to fund an archiving project he had originally devised.

The club hopes cash raised through the appeal will go to fund an official record of is history.

The main function room within the clubhouse has now also been renamed the Mike Robinson Suite.

Club president John Hulme told the Oswestry & Border Counties Advertizer: “To record and celebrate our long and distinguished history, which dates back to 1855, we are planning to chronicle the club’s achievement in pictures and in word .

“This was Mike’s idea and we are keen to carry out his wishes.”

He added: “We very much hope this gallery of local sporting achievement, together with accompanying citations, will be enjoyed by members of the community and our many visitors to the club.

“All donations to this project, however small, will be gratefully received.”
