Campaigning daily hails tourist attraction’s new lifesaving device

A city daily which has campaigned to bring more defibrillators to its patch has welcomed the installation of one of the lifesaving devices at a famous landmark.

The Edinburgh Evening News has spent the past four years supporting bids to install public defibrillators across Edinburgh with its ‘Shockingly Easy’ campaign.

Now the historic Scott Monument has become the latest attraction in the city to host one of the devices.

News of its installation provided a splash for the Evening News yesterday.

Assistant editor Alan Young told HTFP: “The Evening News has been running its Shockingly Easy campaign to increase the number of lifesaving defibrillators since 2014, in memory of 13-year-old Jamie Skinner who died after suffering a cardiac arrest on a local football pitch.

“People and businesses across Edinburgh and the Lothians have really got behind the drive over the years, and we have no doubt lives will be saved as a result.

“Obviously, part of our campaign is telling people where the defibrillators are and so we are always keen to highlight when one is installed, especially when it is in such a key location as the Scott Monument.

“These are incredible – relatively inexpensive devices – which are real lifesavers. We’re delighted with the news and will continue to campaign for more to be installed across the area.”
