Weekly urges readers to ditch cars in new congestion crackdown

walk it wednesday 2A weekly newspaper wants readers to ditch their cars for one day each week to help ease congestion on its patch.

The Warrington Guardian has launched its ‘Walk It Wednesday’ campaign, which urges readers to use their feet more in the run-up to the summer holidays.

The Guardian is hoping for readers to use the initiative to walk to work, as well as when taking their children to school.

The campaign is being supported by Warrington Borough Council.

In a message to readers, editor Hayley Smith said: “Leaving the car at home is a great way to feel more active and healthier.

“We’re hoping lots of you will join us during your commute every Wednesday this Spring and enjoy an easy and stress-free way of getting to your destination.

“And if you’re taking part, don’t forget to pop into our office to collect one of our free #WalkitWednesday stickers or badges to help spread the word.”

The Guardian is also encouraging readers to send in pictures of themselves taking part in the campaign.
