Weekly features in documentary about Helen Bailey murder

A weekly newspaper featured in a television documentary about the murder of a children’s author.

The Royston Crow’s coverage of Helen Bailey’s disappearance and death formed part of the Channel 5 programme ‘Murdered By My Fiancé’.

Ms Bailey was murdered by her partner Ian Stewart at their home in Royston.

Stewart was jailed last week for 34 years for the crime and police are now investigating the death of his wife in 2010.

The documentary focused on most of the front pages of national newspapers the day after Stewart was found guilty, but the Crow’s coverage of the case from the outset of her disappearance was also included.

The production company filmed in Archant’s Stevenage office last Friday, and the programme included a brief clip of an interview with reporter JP Asher.

There were also panning shots of front page stories the Crow had run about the case.

Editor Nick Gill said: “It’s great for a relatively small title such as the Crow to get national exposure in what was a huge story for us, with our primary Crow reporter Bianca Wild doing a fantastic job of covering the court case.

“National coverage helps reinforce that we are the go-to title for news in and around Royston.”
