Regional daily set to move to new riverside office

A regional daily is set to leave its home of nearly 80 years for a new riverside office.

The Teesside Gazette has announced it will leave its headquarters in Borough Road, Middlesbrough, for a new premises at Hudson Quay, on the south bank of the River Tees.

The building is located in the town’s “up and coming” Middlehaven district, and sits close to Middlesbrough Football Club’s Riverside Stadium home.

The Borough Road offices have been purchased by Teesside University, which already owns the adjoining building, but the Gazette will continue to be printed locally.

Bob Cuffe, Gazette managing director, said: “We’re genuinely excited about the move to Hudson Quay. We’ll be right in the heart of the ongoing regeneration of Middlesbrough, next to BoHo, Middlesbrough College, Temenos, the Riverside Stadium, and, hopefully, The Snow Dome.

“Just as importantly we’re delighted that Teesside University – our closest partner – has bought our much loved home and have exciting plans for it.”

The Gazette expects to complete the move by the middle of April.

Malcolm Page, chief operating officer for Teeside University, said: “The Gazette’s decision to relocate is an excellent opportunity for us to continue to develop Teesside University as one of the best study environments in the country.

“We want to ensure our students benefit from the highest quality facilities and we will continue our investment to achieve this.”

Anyone who has ever spent more than five minutes in Middlesbrough knows that where the Gazette is moving is not “in the heart” of the town.

Where it is now, less than 30 seconds from the town centre, both courts and the town hall, is very much in the heart of Middlesbrough.

Also good luck to the non-sport reporters driving in for shifts on a match day……
