Regional daily publishes suicide note at victim’s parents’ request

Nathan WilsonA regional daily has published a “suicide note” written by a 17-year-old before his death.

The Liverpool Echo has run the note, written by Nathan Wilson, left, at the request of his parents Len and Gail.

The couple, who lost Nathan to suicide four years ago, asked the Echo for help as part of their campaign to ensure other families don’t suffer the same heartbreak along with the charity Papyrus – Prevention of Young Suicide.

Len and Gail who have four other children – Lindsey, 37, Sharon, 35, Gemma, 28 and Nathan’s twin, Curtis, 21, as well as four grandchildren – want to open a satellite PAPYRUS office close to their home and are calling for a variety of actions to be taken to help combat suicide.

The note published by the Echo was written seven months before he took his own life and was the only thing not deleted from his computer before his suicide.  Len described it as “effectively, a suicide note”.

It was run by the Echo with one minor omission, which was agreed with his mum and dad.

Editor Alastair Machray said: “The contents of the note were harrowing but the parents feel the greater good is served by raising awareness. We will be pleased to help them as they develop their awareness campaign.”

The couple are also asking for the help of Echo readers in organising their first fundraising for Papyrus – the Nathan Wilson 10K Run, and also a walk, in memory of their son.
