Not-for-profit venture beats regional press competition to online award

Online Media AwardsA not-for-profit venture has beaten off competition for a number of regional press outlets to be crowned Best Local News Site at the Online Media Awards.

Belfast-based website The Detail, which offers news and analysis, claimed the prize at a ceremony held in London on Thursday.

Media co-op the Bristol Cable was highly commended in the same category, as was Trinity Mirror Merseyside for the Liverpool Echo site.

Other nominees included Wales Online, the Peterborough Telegraph, the Belfast News Letter, Belfast Telegraph and the Warrington Guardian.

Trinity Mirror was also successful in the Most Effective Media Tool category for its HiveAlpha in-house analytics and search platform.

In its citation for the award, the tool was described as “indispensable” for Trinity Mirror’s newsrooms.

It reads: “Combining data from dozens of different sources, HiveAlpha breaks down barriers to information and allows all Trinity Mirror users detailed access to the insights they need to maximise their effectiveness.”

The awards, run by The Drum, have now been running for seven years.
